Project Cervicare Second Phase
Cervical cancer is the most common malignancy in the female population of Nepal. As per WHO, in Nepal, the crude cervical cancer incidence per 100,000 women(2020) is 14.2, and the cumulative risk of cervical cancer is at 1.8%. Despite the easy preventability and detectability, 50% of those diagnosed with this cancer face death. January is celebrated as cervical cancer awareness month. Believing that one of the most effective ways to address the problem of cervical cancer is through awareness programs , NHC-COMS team (under the leadership of ambassador Abhikshya Basnet), with support from Anusmaran foundation, organised a cervical cancer awareness campaign, under Project Cervicare: An approach to cervical cancer awareness, among women of reproductive age group in Yagyapuri, Bharatpur-4, Chitwan, on January 30, 2023.
The awareness campaign focused on cervical cancer, its preventive measures- including primary as well as secondary prevention, and treatment options. As most of the participating women belonged to perimenopausal age group, a small session on perimenopausal awareness was also conducted.
